First Gymnastics Lesson

Last night was Cara's first gymnastics lesson.  She has been on the waiting list since fall to get in, and last week we finally got the call that space was available.  When she got home from school we had her take a quick bath and asked her to lay down for a bit to rest.  She insisted she was NOT tired and didn't need a rest.  I tried the age-old mommy trick of, "No one said you had to go to sleep.  Just rest your eyes for a minute."  Worked like a charm!  I snapped this picture right before we got her up to pull her hair back for class.

Since it was her first time, she was in the tumble tots class.  There are 6 or 7 kids in that class from ages 3-5.  Since Cara is almost 6, she is the oldest student in the class.  Here was her first somersault down the triangle pad:

 She spent a lot of time doing this:

If you show Cara something once, she's got it, so the pace of the lesson was pretty slow for her.  She already swings from the bars at school and at home, so the bar exercise was pretty easy for her, too.

She just loved it, which is what I expected.  I asked the teacher at the end of class if she should be moved to a higher group.  He said no, she needed to spend some time there to learn the terminology.  Cara is perfectly fine with that and cannot wait to go back next week.

Maui 2013 {Sunday Snapshot}

A turned 18 in December and asked to go to Maui for her present.  We just had a 4 day weekend and finally made it to Hawaii.  On the day we landed, we went up to Makawao and Paia to do a little shopping in the upcountry.

The next day we went to the beach.  We stay at a place called Maui El Dorado.  It's condos and they are older, but they have their own private beach cabana, which is the whole reason we stay there.  A had fun playing in the water:

All of us at Bubba Gump's the next night:

It was a really fun trip!  We got some shopping done, got a little sun, and spent some time watching the whales out in front of the cabana.  I have no photos of whales because it seemed like every time I put my camera up to take a picture, they would disappear.  Maybe they were camera shy...

Happy Chinese New Year! {Sunday Snapshot}

I can't believe it's our third year spending Chinese New Year together as a family.  We stuck to our tradition of eating dinner tonight at Panda Garden.  I snapped this picture in the front yard before we left.

She is so incredibly sweet and looks just beautiful in her Chinese silks.  Here's to many more Chinese New Year celebrations, my love!

Cardiologist Appointment

Cara had her annual cardiologist appointment at Seattle Children's Hospital.  They didn't do the EKG this time, only the echocardiogram.  Cara's pretty modest, so she was pretty embarrassed that I was taking pictures of her in a hospital gown. :)

I think she looks pretty stinkin' cute!

The grimace in this photo is because my camera flash was driving her nuts.  She laid very still and watched a Dora movie while the pictures of her heart were taken.

The doctor was running a little late, so Cara was asleep in my arms by the time he came in.  He said there's been no change and to come back in a year.  He basically said there are 3 scenarios of what could happen with her heart.  Number one, the VSD could close on its own, but its not likely that this will happen.  Number two, as she grows, her slightly enlarged heart will "fit" better in her little body and nothing will need to be done.  He feels this is the most likely scenario for Cara.  Number three, her heart could stay enlarged and her valve could start leaking (VSD is close to a valve) and a repair would need to be done.

I'm going to hope for scenario number two and go back in a year. :)

On to Regionals! {Sunday Snapshot}

Yesterday was the district championship wrestling tournament.  B wrestles 113, but he's been so sick the last 3 weeks that he weighed in at 109!  He did, however, make it into the Regional championship, so he has a week to get his strength up and wrestle again.

The two boys ahead of him on the blocks attend school in the district where I work.  They will be number 1 and 2 in the state championship, so B is up against tough competition.

B's team took the district title, so it was a great day for the team all the way around.
